Black Rotary Encoder Control Knob Without Position Indicator

A black plastic rotary control knob with groves on the side for an improved grip. Hole Type

D Shaft Hole

A D-shaft knob features a hole with a D-shaped cross-section, having one flat side and the rest round. This configuration ensures that the knob fits snugly onto the shaft, preventing any slippage and provides absolute psoitoning of the position indicator.

The flat side of the hole aligns with the flattened side of the D-shaft, providing precise control and secure attachment. This type of hole is commonly found in knobs used in audio equipment, industrial controls, and automotive applications.

This type of hole dictates the angle of the position indicator, relative to the flat of the D shape. This is measured in degrees of rotation being either 0°, 90°, 180° or 270°.

Measuring Rotary Knobs

Body Diameter

The body diameter is measured at the base of the gripping surface and excludes any non-grippable flange or skirt and also excludes any protruding pinters or tails.

This knob has a body diameter of 12.0mm.

Maximum Diameter

The maximum diameter is measured at the widest part of the knob and excludes any non-grippable flange or skirt and also excludes any protruding pinters or tails. The widest round part of the knob.

This knob has a maximum diameter of 12.0mm.

Minimum Shaft Depth

The minimum shaft depth is the minimum amount that the shaft must be inserted into the body of the knob, in order to make suitable contact with the shaft fixing.

This knob has a minimum shaft depth of 3.3mm.

Maximum Shaft Depth

The maximum shaft depth is the maximum amount that the shaft can be inserted into the body of the knob. This is measured from the lowest part of the base of the knob to the bottom of the hole.

This knob has a minimum shaft depth of 13.4mm.

Height

The height of the knob is measured from the lowest part to the highest including any pointers, inserts, skirts or domed end caps.

This knob has a height of 14.5mm.

Clearance

The clearance is the space between the bottom of the knob and the equipment it is mounted to. While this is not a direct specification of the knob it is important to consider this dimension when selecting a control knob.

An appropiate level of clearence between the base of the knob and the surface of the equipment is nessessary to ensure smooth control and to prevent damage. If your equipment has a recessed area around the control knob shaft you will need to consider this in conjunction with the maximum shaft depth and maximum diameter.
